Believe it or not, I just finished watching it. I hadn't watched it for several years, but always remembered the ending.
I saw the box set on sale for $20 and picked it up a couple weeks ago. I forgot how good the entire movie is. It really is a shame more people do not consider it to be a horror classic

Once I get into some more cash, I think I'm gonna pick this one up. Possibly as soon as my next paycheck. I'll let you know what I think of it when I finally get to see it.

Yeah I, too, bought the set and re-watched it a couple weeks ago... I definitely consider it to be a classic! It beats the original F13 even imoho. It is sad that its not regarded as such when people talk about horror classics. I blame the sequels though... meh

I thought Sleepaway Camp had alot of heart. F13 was a pretty average slasher until the ending.
Here is my question: Which film had the better ending?

Foo It had heart for sure, it had some feeling other slashers don't have(but i cant describe), also the characters were pretty well thought out as opposed to most other slashers at the time.
Definitely Sleepaway Camp had the better ending. Friday the 13th's ending was very lacking, badly written, among other things... imoho.
Domd what do you think?? I want to hear why you don't like it?

Yeah, DoMD I'd like to hear both sides. It'll help me decide whether it is worth the investment.

Okay...
It's a sloppy, dreadful, painful to watch piece of garbage with an irrelivent ending only there for the sake of sick shock value, in which I was just more annoyed than shocked. I literally sat up from my bed while watching and yelled, "what?!?!?! That was fvcking retarded!" I think it's on par with "Howling: New Moon Rising" as one of the worst horror films I've ever seen.

*shrugs* I told ya you didn't really want to hear it.
And the ending didn't have anything to do with anything. What did it have to do with the killing spree? Sure, I didn't stick around for the sequels to find out, but it was just dumb. At least with Jason popping out of the water, we got something to look forward to.

Doesn't mean i'm not going to voice my opinion as well... It didn't have to do with the killing spree itself... but they lead to it for sure. I can't really talk about it because ISU hasn't seen the movie but yeah it was lead to. Jason popping out of the water was alright. It was a good jump moment and letting you know it wasn't over. Though from the time Mrs. Voorhees introduces herself to when Alice asks about the boy is what i consider the ending. You find out the killer of the movie... which is in this case her revealing didn't make sense with the rest of the movie. Then Jason popping out of the water seemed tacked on... It was there as a "this isn't over" moment though soo it didn't need to be more than that i suppose.
